Overview of Word Music’s “More Songs for Praise & Worship 5”

Brand new to Word Music is their latest release in the “More Songs for Praise & Worship” series.

Here is info on the previous releases:

Songs for Praise and Worship

Hymns for Praise and Worship

More Songs for Praise and Worship

In MPW5, there are 60 new songs, an option for a comprehensive worship planner digital edition, option for the musical score and parts in PDF and Finale format, and more!

I am fairly pleased with the selection of songs…especially the key signatures!  Everything is not in E or A, making it piano/organ friendly for the local church.

  1. We just started a program at our church to teach some more current worship songs to our congregation, since they aren’t found in our hymnal. I purchased volumes 2-5 of this series and they are working really well for us, in conjunction with the Song Select add-on of our church’s CCLI license (you should have this basic license already for copyright purposes.)

Our church is very traditional and change is difficult, so we are easing them in gently by introducing three new songs during the time between Sunday School and our church service as people are coming in to the sanctuary. We do those same three songs (rotating the order) for three weeks in a row. They are seeing the words on the screen and becoming familiar with the new songs in a relaxed setting, singing along if they feel like it. Then after a while, our pastor chooses songs from our new repertoire and places them within the service itself. We use guitar and piano, since drums are a little much for our church at this point, but even some of the more up-tempo songs can work in a fairly traditional setting. You can make them more or less ‘intense’ based on your available instrumentation or worship style.

The keys of these arrangements work well for congregational singing, and some songs have been transposed down for this purpose. I find that many of the writers of this style of music are tenors, making other praise & worship books that have the original keys too high for many singers. The CCLI Song select feature gives you access to transposing the available lead/chord sheets into whatever key you need to match what’s in these books.

We also cut some of the repeats to fit our needs, but the arrangements give you the option if you like more instrumental fill-in.
