My Reflections on “No Other Name” In Concert

On Tuesday night April 5, Curb Records recording artists, “No Other Name” was in concert at Cloverport Baptist Church in Cloverport, KY. The group (Sam, Laura, and Chad) was performing for the Blackford Breckinridge Baptist Associational Semi-Annual Meeting.

No Other Name (N-O-N) is a trio based out of the Nashville, TN area who has been singing for over ten years together. Sam and Laura are brother and sister and they met Chad while all three singers were at a two-week music school in Nashville. God brought them together and gave them their mission, passion, and purpose.

Recently, the group paired with the IMB to film a video in the Middle Eastern city of Dubai for their song, “Lead You to the Cross”. That video has opened many doors for the group. You can see the video link at the end of the article.

As the worship/music representative for the association, I was in charge of helping to coordinate working with the booking agency and on-site logistics for the event.

It was a joy working with the agency and the group preparing for the date to arrive. I spoke with Chris (sound technician) about 1pm and they were scheduled for a 4pm arrival. About 3:30pm Chris called me back and their bus had broken down on the way! So, after they arranged other transportation, unloaded and then loaded back, they arrived ONE HOUR before the concert start time. Due to their experienced crew and the team we had prepared to assist them, we made record time in getting them set up and ready for the concert. God was in it all!

N-O-N started the concert with a call to worship arrangement of the hymn “The Solid Rock” which got the congregation standing and singing along. The song was accompanied by Sam who sang and also played the guitar. N-O-N bounced back and forth from a cappella songs (featuring tight, well-rehearsed harmonies), songs accompanied by guitar only, and songs with tracks (accompaniment on CD).  The singers were energetic and filled with passion while praising God in song.

Their concert repertoire included: “I’ll Fly Away,” “There’s Pow’r in the Blood,” “Lead You to the Cross,” “Maplewood Methodist Church,” “The Only One,” a brand new song Laura wrote about the passing of her grandmother (which is going on their next recording), and many more! The concert had great flow and the audience was able to hear each individual share from the heart inbetween song sets.

One unique aspect of the concert was the group’s use of visual media. Chris, operated their board, as well as media shout to run video with most of the songs. The videos included personalized footage of the group on overseas mission trips. This aspect of the concert served as a testimony to the congregation on their dedication to missions.

Their merchandise table had photos, t-shirts, CD’s, toys for kids, and one item I’ve never seen on a “merch” table…a passport application. N-O-N prays for movement in missions in the local communities and abroad. Having passport applications gets the concert attendee one step closer to following Jesus’ great commission.

A few weeks ago, N-O-N was nominated for a Dove Award for the “New Artist of the Year” category. Though they have sung for over ten years together they are still new to the industry. Cast you vote for them at the link below.

I was privileged to video a brief interview with the group to post on ChurchMusicToday.Net after the concert. I hope we can post the video by Monday (4/11/11).

The concert was indeed a blessing and the group was GREAT to work with. I would encourage any church to get N-O-N to lead a worship service at your church very soon!
